Sustainable Economic Opportunities for Women in the MENA Region (SEOW – MENA)

((Women, economic participation, gender equality, economic justice, knowledge, MENA, ))

Promoting women’s economic participation in the MENA region through building women’s capacities and community awareness of structural and institutional obstacles to women’s economic participation

CRTD.A seeks to promote opportunities for women’s participation in economic life through capacity-building and education in the MENA countries and by eliminating structural barriers for women’s economic participation. The strategy has been designed to capitalize on CRTD.A’s expertise in this area as well as to link up with related local and regional initiatives.

Women Economic Participation in the MENA region

The UNDP Arab Human Development Report (AHDR) clearly indicated that overall, development in the Arab region is largely hindered by a freedom deficit, gender inequality, and poor information and technology usage. More specifically, the regional average of Arab’s women’s literacy is no more than 50 percent whilst Arab women’s participation in political and economic life is the lowest worldwide! The AHDR strongly urged Arab states to address gender equalities through increasing public spending to bring about educational, political, economic and social empowerment for women.
